REACHING
YOUR DREAMS - Theme for 2008
Our
nation celebrates her 43rd birthday!
The
theme is “Celebrating the Singapore Spirit”. According to the website,
“The Singapore Spirit has stitched our social fabric in harmony, united
us in adversity and propelled us towards excellence since independence.
It is the Singapore Spirit that will continue to shape our resilience,
strengthen our cohesiveness and nurture our creativity to forge ahead as
One
People and Nation, and continue our journey towards building a better Home
for All and a Global City of Possibilities.” (italics mine)
Notice
the emphasis on UNITY. Our leaders recognize the importance of strong
relationships. We are more than people living and working together. We
must sense the cohesiveness of being fellow citizens and become one people.
Similarly,
Paul
says, “So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You
are citizens along with all of God's holy people. You are members of God's
family.” (Ephesians 2:19, NLT)
All
of us must get involved in “body-building” - building the Body of
Christ i.e. the church. Every person is a member of God’s family in EL.
As new people come into the church, we must take the initiative and reach
out to them. To make friends with them and bring them into the EL family.
It takes our conscious effort. As Andy Stanley suggests, let us invite
guests “to move from the Foyer to the Living Room to the Kitchen”.
ELites
& friends, may we experience life in EL as One People and Church, building
God’s kingdom by showing and receiving His love with one another &
with people He brings to our church!
